The term “effectiveness” in management literature has a specific meaning. Weirich, Cannice, and Koontz define effectiveness as “the achievement of objectives”. Robbins and Mary define effectiveness as “doing the right things, or doing those work activities that will result in achieving goals”. Thus, something’s degree of effectiveness depends upon the extent to which its objectives are met.
So, if we want to know the effectiveness of a leader, we need to first know the leader’s goals. Then measure whether those goals are achieved or otherwise. So, effective leaders are those leaders who are successful in achieving their goals in an organization. Dr. Adeel Zeerak uses the term “High-Impact” leaders in the Leadership Mastery Model to describe highly effective leaders who possess certain other desirable qualities of great leaders.
